Research Description

The Gas Surface Interaction Lab investigates the response of materials in extreme environment, such as in hypersonic flight. This is mainly accomplished by developing novel numerical models that can replicate the flow environment around a hypersonic vehicle, as well as the thermal response of the heat shield. The lab also performs space flight tests, using an orbital re-entry capsule (KRUPS), which aims at testing novel materials and instruments.
