ECE Graduate Students Part of Winning Teams at 2018 FEEDER Summer Program

June 26, 2018

Graduate students Mahsen Al-Ani and Oluwaseun Akeyo's team won the “Best Presentation” award and Ahmad Ghaweta helped his team earn a best performance algorithm award at the 2018 FEEDER summer program.

University of Kentucky electrical and computer engineering graduate students Mahsen Al-Ani and Oluwaseun Akeyo participated in the 2018 Foundations for Engineering Education for Distributed Energy Resources (FEEDER) summer program held June 11-15, 2018 in the University of South Carolina. Their team, which included MD Multan Biswas, Ph.D. student at University of South Carolina, Sterling Reese, an undergraduate student at University of South Carolina and Shane Witsell, undergraduate student at San Diego State University, won the “Best Presentation” award for “Hot House Team in Transactive Power Flow.” The objective of their project was to design a control system for a smart house and maximize profit and minimize the cost by using the photovoltaics in Simulink program.

Additionally, graduate student Ahmad Ghaweta helped his team earn a best performance algorithm award.

The FEEDER summer program is funded by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, US Department of Energy under the Grid Engineering for Accelerated Renewable Energy Deployment program (GEARED). UK is one of 12 Universities in the FEEDER consortium. Electrical and computer engineering professors Larry Holloway and Yuan Liao are the departmental contacts for the FEEDER program at UK.
