Alumna and Adjunct Professor Elaine Duncan Inducted into Medical and Biological Engineering Elite

March 27, 2019

Duncan was elected for “outstanding contributions to the applications of biomaterials, medical device safety, performance and commercialization.”

The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the induction of  Elaine Duncan, MS, RAC, President, Paladin Medical, Inc. and adjunct professor in the F. Joseph Halcomb III, M.D. Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Kentucky to its College of Fellows. Duncan was nominated, reviewed and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for “outstanding contributions to the applications of biomaterials, medical device safety, performance and commercialization.”

Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer. The College of Fellows comprises the top two percent of medical and biological engineers. College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering and medicine research, practice, or education” and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education."

A formal induction ceremony was held during the AIMBE Annual Meeting at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. on March 25. Duncan was inducted along with 156 colleagues who make up the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2019.

Duncan graduated from UK with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1974. She was inducted into the College of Engineering's Hall of Distinction in 2000.
