The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) gives two annual awards to student chapters from across the globe, and this year, the University of Kentucky Norwood Student Chapter was named the recipient of both.
SME conveys the Outstanding Student Chapter award based upon a comprehensive account of all academic, industrial and service activities organized by the students to promote the professional and career development of their members. The Mineral Education Coalition (MEC) Student Chapter Award is based on local and community outreach, where the Norwood Chapter is particularly active in STEM education and service for area youth.
UK Norwood Student Chapter officers will receive both awards at the SME 2020 Annual Conference and Expo in Phoenix, Arizona February 23-26, 2020. The UK Norwood Student chapter is currently raising funds to send approximately 20 students to the event. Professor Jack Groppo is the faculty advisor for the Norwood Student Chapter.
