Ramkumar Annamalai Proposal Selected by CCTS

For this work, Annamalai is collaborating with associate professor Sheng Tong’s Nanomedicine lab.

Assistant professor Ramkumar Annamalai’s proposal entitled “Magnetic Nanocarrier-Induced Immunomodulation for Fracture Healing” has been selected for the Small Grants program award by the UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS). For this work, Annamalai is collaborating with associate professor Sheng Tong’s Nanomedicine lab, and the team plans to use this award to strengthen applications for extramural research grants.

The research team aims to develop a targeted nanoparticle-based therapy for regulating inflammatory cell phenotypes towards promoting fracture healing. This collaborative work will be a paradigm shift in fracture healing and will yield a targeted immunomodulatory therapy for chronic and recalcitrant fractures. Additionally, this research will provide crucial insights into the mechanobiology of macrophages and their context-specific polarization that are valuable for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Annamalai joined the BME faculty last summer.
