Emeritus Professor of Biomedical Engineering Betty Sisken recently published a book chapter titled "Enhancement of Nerve Regeneration by Selected Electromagnetic Signals" in Dosimetry in Bioelectromagnetics by Marko Markov, Ed. CRC Press, Taylor and Francis Group.
The purpose of this work was to study the effects of current densities and specific waveforms delivered by direct current or pulsed electromagnetic fields on cultured chick embryo sensory ganglia as a model system. The data demonstrated that selected fields can enhance the rate of regeneration of injured neurons and provided a basis for later experiments in adult mammalian models.
Sisken worked at UK from 1974-2007.
