Zachary Kahleifeh Named Outstanding Master’s Student

Kahleifeh’s primary research focus is on the topic of “Energy Recovery Computing for Low-Power and Secure Circuits.”

Zachary Kahleifeh, a master’s student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been selected as the recipient of the 2020 College of Engineering Outstanding Master’s Student.

Kahleifeh’s primary research focus is on the topic of “Energy Recovery Computing for Low-Power and Secure Circuits.” With the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), there is an urgent need to design energy-efficient and secure IoT devices such as RFID and smart card. Energy Recovery Computing (Adiabatic computing) is a promising computing paradigm to design energy-efficient and secure IoT based devices.

Kahleifeh is advised by assistant professor Himanshu Thapliyal and has played a key role in Thapliyal’s research project sponsored by the Air Force Research Lab. His paper titled “2-Phase Energy-Efficient Secure Positive Feedback Adiabatic Logic for CPA-Resistant IoT Devices” received an Outstanding Student Paper Award via the IEEE 6th World Forum on Internet of Things earlier this year. The paper reflects research supported by the NSF CAREER Award Thapliyal received in 2019.

Kahleifeh received his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from UK in 2018.
