Mujan Seif, materials engineering doctoral student at the University of Kentucky, is a recipient of a 2020 NASA Space Technology Graduate Research Opportunity (NSTGRO). The award goes to “graduate students who show significant potential to contribute to NASA’s goal of creating innovative new space technologies for our Nation’s science, exploration and economic future.”
Awards are made in the form of grants to accredited U.S. universities on behalf of individuals pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees, with the faculty advisor serving as the principal investigator.
Seif is advised by materials engineering associate professor Matthew J. Beck. Her research involves designing metallic foams with improved mechanical response to hypervelocity impacts as related to Micrometeoroid and Orbital Debris (MMOD) protection and provides collaborative opportunities with researchers across the College of Engineering as well as NASA Research Centers.
