The UK chapter of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration was again honored with the SME Outstanding Student Chapter Award and the Mineral Education Coalition Outstanding Student chapter awards for the 2020-2021 academic year. This makes the fifth time in the past six years the chapter has been named the award’s recipient.
UK’s SME chapters received the award in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 and now in 2021.
“This is a legacy we’re all proud of,” said mining engineering professor Jack Groppo, faculty advisor for the chapter. “Any organization is only as good as its commitment to service and everyone worked extremely hard, especially in the midst of restrictions due to the pandemic.”
