Mariantonieta Gutierrez Soto specializes in smart structures—buildings that can adapt to changes in the environment.

Two weeks ago, civil engineering assistant professor Mariantonieta Gutierrez Soto and doctoral student Sajad Javadinasab Hormozabad were invited onto an NSF-sponsored team to perform damage assessment from deadly tornados that had recently struck the Nashville, Tennessee area.
