Three NASA EPSCoR Proposals Selected for Awards

November 19, 2018

Three recent NASA EPSCoR proposals have been selected for $100,000 awards. All of these projects are managed under the NASA Kentucky programs.

Three recent NASA EPSCoR proposals have been selected for $100,000 awards. All of these projects are managed under the NASA Kentucky programs, with Suzanne Weaver Smith, Donald and Gertrude Lester Professor of Mechanical Engineering and NASA Kentucky Space Grant and EPSCoR Programs director, as PI.

“These are fascinating projects and will be terrific investments for growth of research programs in Kentucky,” said Smith.

The approved projects are listed below:

KRUPS: ISS Flight for Heat Shield Testing, 1/2019-1/2022, $100,000 (plus launch costs and payload integration of greater than $100,000 value). Sci-PI – Alexandre Martin, associate professor of mechanical engineering; Co-I – William Smith, professor of electrical and computer engineering.

Aerial Platform for the Exploration of Earth’s Volcanoes: Measuring Atmospheric and Physical Properties, 1/2019 – 1/2020, $100,000. Sci-PI – Marcelo Guzman, associate professor of chemistry; Co-I – Sean Bailey, associate professor of mechanical engineering.

SMD Task A: A Fully Eulerian Simulation Approach for High-Temperature Fluid-Solid Interaction, 1/2019-1/2020, $100,000. Sci-PI – Christoph Brehm, assistant professor of mechanical engineering; Co-I – Alexandre Martin, associate professor of mechanical engineering.
