Herrin Gives Talk at National Academy of Engineering Workshop

December 18, 2018

“Engineering a Quieter America: UAS and UAV (Drone) Noise Emissions and Noise Control Engineering Technology” was held in Washington D.C. December 13-14.

David Herrin, associate professor of mechanical engineering and director of the Vibro-Acoustics Consortium at the University of Kentucky, recently gave a talk on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) noise at a workshop sponsored by the National Academy of Engineering.

“Engineering a Quieter America: UAS and UAV (Drone) Noise Emissions and Noise Control Engineering Technology” was held in Washington D.C. December 13-14. Workshop attendees and a majority of the speakers are heavily involved in UAS/UAV noise policy, both from government agencies and private sector. Herrin’s presentation was titled “Measurement Surface Contribution Analysis on a UAS and Field Testing.”

Herrin’s research is part of an ongoing partnership with the 20+ member Vibro-Acoustics Consortium. Twice a year, consortium members gather for presentations that specialize in noise and vibrational control for heavy equipment, engines and HVAC products. Membership in the consortium has doubled in the last 10 years.
