Assistant or Associate Professor of Materials Engineering

As part of a growth initiative in the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky, the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering invites applications for a tenure‐eligible (Regular Title Series) faculty position in materials engineering. This 9‐month period appointment is anticipated to be at the associate or assistant professor level and has a start date of Fall 2023. Applicants are sought who hold undergraduate and doctoral degrees in materials science and engineering (or a related field such as metallurgy or ceramics), with a strong record of research accomplishments and the capability to develop an active and nationally recognized research program. Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and be qualified to teach a broad range of courses in materials engineering. All regular title series faculty are expected to have a mix of research, teaching, and service to be negotiated annually with the chair of the department. Applications are sought from qualified individuals with a record of experimental and/or computational research accomplishments primarily in (i) metallurgy and metallic materials; (ii) ceramics. An additional specific area of interest is (iii) design, processing, evaluation, and characterization of materials for flexible/printed electronics, with applications in sensing and power generation/storage. Over the past seven years, the UK Electron Microscopy Center has installed more than $10M worth of new instrumentation, establishing state‐of‐the‐art capabilities in broad areas of materials characterization. In addition to the research efforts within the materials engineering program, the college and university offer complementary faculty expertise in areas such as recovery and utilization of rare earth elements; sustainable upcycling of materials; additive manufacturing; energy materials. A strong research team is also active in organic electronics at the UK Center for Applied Energy Research.
